The Process:
Step 1: Calculate your annual carbon footprint. Determine how many tons of carbon you need to offset.
Step 2: Multiply the number of tons by $7. The resulting number is the amount of your donation to the Gaviotas/Marion Institute Carbon Offset Initiative in a given year. The hope is that this calculation will motivate you to take steps to reduce your own carbon footprint as well as to offset the amount of carbon emissions you cannot currently reduce.

Any contribution made to the Marion Institute is tax deductible to the fullest extent allowed by law. The Marion Institute is a 501 C 3 organization. A copy of the Marion Institute IRS Tax Determination Letter is available on request. The amount of a tax deduction you qualify for is dependent on the tax bracket you are in. Consult your accountant to determine your deduction.
Everyone making a contribution in support of this initiative must be aware that the program is entirely voluntary, and the donor will not receive a tradable carbon credit nor any other goods or service in exchange for their donation.
