Colombia is located in the middle of the western hemisphere, on the northern coast of the South American continent. It is a large country (equivalent to Spain, France and Portugal together) with more than 44 million people that make it the third most populous country in Latin America.
It is the only country in South America that borders the Pacific and the Atlantic Oceans.
Regarding the Colombian population, around 95% of the population lives and works in the fertile central valleys of the Andes and the Caribbean Coast. Colombia is one of the most ethnically diverse countries in the Western Hemisphere.
The eastern and southern parts of the country are covered with the dense tropical forest of the Amazon, and this forest, together with those of the country's Pacific coast, are among the world's most valuable natural resources.
